***
First movie in the series. Doesn’t require an introduction. One of the highest grossing movies of all time. Johnny Depp delivers one of his most brilliant performances. Watched it a couple dozen times(no kidding.)
For what it tries to achieve, it does so perfectly. This movie is one of the few who are truly entertaining and amusing but not quite a comedy. An adventure film like you’d imagine one to be. Difficult to categorize. The fantastic elements are interwoven into the story, a crucial element to the plot itself.
If somehow you haven’t watched this one, then you must do so. Watch at least the first three movies in the series, they are worth your time.
Radu’s review:
What a movie. What a time. What a journey. I remember when this movie first came out. I was 11 years old and convinced my mom to let me go with some friends to watch it if I got some good marks. What a treat I had.
This should not be considered a movie. This is a cinematic experience. Although a classic adventure story with the good guys vs the bad pirates fight, the beautiful damsel in distress and the cursed treasure. Fantasy, adventure and an extremely good soundtrack provide one of the most entertaining movies ever made.
Of course, the best thing about this amazing movie is one particular character, called Jack Sparrow. Johnny Depp created his most iconic and memorable character (which says a lot considering his roles) in a performance worthy of an Oscar. His interpretation of the most dishonest, honest pirate is so majestic that it takes everything to a whole new level. “Savvy?”
So if you ever feel bored or miserable, then this movie is one of the greatest ways to make your day better. After all, it had such a huge success and popularity that four other movies were made. But this is how it all started. This is where you must begin. “Savvy?”
